CHAIR YOGA

CHAIR YOGA IS
FOR EVERYONE

Chair Yoga is often thought of as a modality taught only to senior citizens. Although, Chair Yoga has gained a great deal of popularity in the older community, (very much so because it makes yoga more accessible and safe for this population), it is, in fact, for everyone!

Everyone may receive some benefit from a little chair yoga, to better familiarize themselves, with the mindfulness of how we sit, and breathe, and are ourselves, present, as we sit.

Chair Yoga is particularly useful in office spaces. I have taught yoga at Wellness Day’s in offices, focused entirely around people’s own office chairs. Teaching be the ergonomics, posture, and mindfulness of the space in which we spend so much of our day. Breathing practices, and stretches to improve energy, relieve pain, and overall, improve the physical wellness of the individual.

The chair, just like blocks, straps, bolsters, the wall, and our mat, is a tool, like any other, that can can help us to reach spaces in the body, which may otherwise be less accessible, or would not benefit us physically, even cause injury, by overextending, without the use of a prop. For myself, after certain leg injuries: a broken foot, sprained ankles, repeat stress to an tibialis anterior (basically twisting ankle the wrong way), which each had me off my feet some time, chair yoga was especially helpful in my recovery, getting me back to my yoga routine.

Chair Yoga has also been helpful in pregnancy, and other areas of injury recovery. Other props can be incorporated. Often, the addition of blocks, straps, and sometimes bolsters, even hot massage rocks or weighted bags can be included. There are no limits. But, truly, all one needs, is a chair that is sturdy.

To recap, these are some forms of Chair Yoga that can be included at your business/organization or event:

  • Chair Yoga For Office Workers
  • Prenatal & Postpartum Chair Yoga
  • Senior Chair Yoga For Better Quality (Independence) Of Life
  • Recovery Chair Yoga (Use Of Chair As A Support Prop

It should also be noted, there are so many poses in Pelvic Floor Yoga, which makes use of the chair! The chair is an assistive tool, which helps to reach more deeply into some core muscles groups. As well as to teach essential posture, and tail bone positioning. Much, much more!

The hardest yoga poses, after all, are the ones in which, we sit with our-self.
